One Person. One Dog. Partners in Life.

At Brothers Plumbing, Heating & Electric, our mission is to develop lasting relationships where everyone wins; to show our team members, clients, and community that WE CARE. Brothers Gives Back is how we put that mission into action beyond the work truck. Each month, our customers nominate a local charity or nonprofit, and we proudly support them with a donation and community spotlight, because caring doesn’t stop at the front door.
This July, we are proud to stand with Canine Partners of the Rockies (CaPR), an Assistance Dogs International accredited nonprofit based right here in Aurora, Colorado. Since 2002, CaPR has been enabling Coloradans with disabilities to lead more independent and gratifying lives by raising, training, and placing highly skilled mobility service dogs, all at no cost to the recipient.
What Makes CaPR Special
CaPR’s work goes far beyond obedience training. Their purpose-bred pups undergo extensive training using only positive reinforcement methods, followed by a personalized matching process that pairs each dog with a Coloradan whose life they can truly change. These service dogs help their partners open doors, pick up dropped items, use keycards, and even help with laundry. These are everyday tasks that most of us take for granted. But the impact goes even deeper than that. For many partners, their service dog brings connection, visibility, and a renewed sense of purpose.
CaPR also places Facility Dogs in schools, hospitals, and counseling centers, where they provide comfort, companionship, and courage to children and patients navigating trauma, court testimony, or extensive medical procedures. Their Dale Outreach Group (D.O.G.) Program, named after the first Coloradan, to receive a service dog, extends their reach through therapeutic visits to veterans’ programs, rehabilitation centers, and community events, planting seeds of hope wherever they go.
Why This Partnership Matters
At Brothers, we say “if you are breathing, you belong here.” That belief in belonging and independence is exactly what drives CaPR’s work. They remove financial barriers by placing their dogs at no cost, making their life-changing services accessible to more Coloradans. They build lasting partnerships, supporting each service dog team for the lifetime of the dog. And they do it all with the kind of care, dedication, and heart that we recognize in our own team every day.
Along with our donation, every Brothers Gives Back recipient receives a copy of The Butterfly Effect: How Your Life Matters by Andy Andrews. It’s a small reminder that one act, one choice, one moment of care can ripple out and change everything. It’s a belief that lives at the heart of what Canine Partners of the Rockies does every single day: one person, one dog, partners in life.
