Hail Storm Damages AC Systems and Roof Vents

Hail Damaged Condenser
Colorado got hit hard by hail storms over the last few days. These storms brought golfball-sized hailstones and caused extensive damage to air conditioning systems, roof vents, and other property. Here at Brothers Plumbing, Heating & Electric, we can help repair/replace air conditioning systems extensively damaged by hail. If you’ve found your air conditioning system damaged, give us a call at 303.468.2294. We’re standing by to help you out in any way we can.

Types of Damage

Hail is dangerous. It causes damage to property and can injure people. Air conditioners, roof vents, and other external appliances and home features are especially at risk during hail storms. If your air conditioning system or roof vents are showing any of the following signs of damage, then please do not hesitate to give us a call:

  • Damaged Fan Blades
If hail has damaged or dinged up your AC fan, then give us a call right away. A damaged fan will drastically affect your air conditioning system.
  • Coil Fin Damage
The coil of your air conditioner is one of the most important parts. If the fins (aluminum fins attached to copper pipes) are damaged, repair or replacement is often necessary.
  • Case Damage
If the hail storm has damaged nothing but the case of your air conditioning system, then your unit is probably perfectly fine. If you’re still worried, give us a call for an inspection.
  • Roof Vent Damage
If you have roof vents for your water heater or furnace, inspect the vent for cracks.

Coils Can Sometimes be Fixed

If the fins of your condenser coil are bent, and no damage is done to the copper piping underneath, then it may be possible to repair the coil. Coil repairs are pretty straightforward: A technician will use a small comb-like device to straighten out any bent coil fins. Sometimes, however, this is not enough and the fins are beyond repair. When this happens in a commercial unit, the coil itself is decently simple to replace. If it happens with your home unit, then replacement of the entire condenser unit is usually the more cost-effective option.

Replacement is Often the Best Option

Unfortunately, hail damage is often the last straw for many air conditioning systems. Replacing the damaged system is usually more affordable and practical than repairing it. At Brothers Plumbing, Heating & Electric, we install hail guards with every new air conditioning system. These hail guards protect your system from the kinds of damages we talked about here today. If you have suffered hail damage during this recent storm, then please give us a call! We’re standing by to help you out with all your air conditioning needs and roof vent needs.
