Summer Hints, Tips, and Reminders

Reminder: Make sure you wash or replace the central ac unit’s air filter at least once per month during May through September

Tip: Clean the water drain in the central air conditioning unit. Over time as water condenses within the unit this can become blocked. If this is not properly cleared then it leads  to a buildup of water within the unit that can cause permanent damage and is a potential safety risk to you and your family.

 COOLING TIPS
Reminder:Avoid setting your thermostat at a colder setting then normal when you turn on your air conditioner. It will not cool your home any faster and could result in excessive cooling and additional expenses.

Tip: Set your thermostat at as high a temperature as comfortably possible in the summer, and ensure humidity control if needed. Also consider using an indoor fan with your air conditioner to help spread the cooled air throughout your home.

LONG-TERM SAVINGS TIPS
Reminder: If your air conditioner is old, consider buying an energy efficient model. Look for the Energy Star and Energy Guide labels.

Qualifying room air conditioners are 10% more efficient and qualified central units are 15% more efficient than standard models.

Tip: Consider installing a whole-house fan or an evaporation cooler if it is appropriate for your
climate.
